Time Commitment for Volleyball |
Like all worthwhile extra-curricular activities, high school
sports require a substantial commitment. Volleyball—the ultimate
TEAM sport—demands that diverse individuals work as one, in a
fast-paced test of coordination, concentration and—above
all—cooperation. Building a team requires a commitment of
everyone's TIME.Westwood Varsity, JV, or Freshman teams you are
expected to:

|
Attend Every Practice |
Skills training, lesson plans and game preparations are all built
one step on top of another. Coaches will not have the opportunity
to help players “catch up.” Players will be expected to attend
every practice time, no excuses. Please contact the coaches
if an emergency arises at 512-464-4056.

|
Attend School on Match Days |
The UIL and the Round Rock School District prohibit any athlete
from participating in an athletic contest unless, on the day of
the match, they attended every scheduled class, or receive written
permission from the school principal, Becky Donald. |
| |
|
Attend Match Every Day |
On match days (primarily Tuesdays and
Fridays), the Varsity, JV, and Freshman teams must attend each
other’s matches as well as their own. The team not playing will
help officiate the other match and/or record statistics and help
the other team during warm-ups and cleanup. No one may leave the
combined Varsity/JV/Freshman matches early unless she receives
express permission from Coach Zora; that permission will rarely be
given. |
| |
|
Ride the Team Bus |
Varsity, JV, and Freshman players must ride the team bus to the
game. A player should be prepared to do homework during the bus
rides. All players must return to the Westwood High School parking
lot on the team bus. A player may not drive her own car to or from
Road matches. |

|
Avoid Other Conflicts |
Saturdays: The 2009 Volleyball schedule will include
several Saturday tournaments (Varsity, Junior Varsity, and
Freshman), plus other possible team activities (Kick-off Party,
Westwood Warrior Showcase and Woodstock Tournaments).
Other conflicts: Many Westwood Volleyball players also
participate in music, theater, journalism, student government,
etc. Your volleyball commitment means you may have to reschedule
some of those other activities during the volleyball season. Talk
with your coach if you anticipate a problem. |
