JV Orange - 12 Stony Point - 36

Randy Davis

The Westwood Warriors dropped their first district game to the Stony Point Tigers by a score of 36-12. The offense jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead in the first quarter on a 70 yd touchdown pass and catch from Quarterback Mike McCaughey to Wide Receiver Max Kempf and on a run up the middle by Running Back Senan Jaber after a defensive stop deep in Tiger territory. The Warrior offense from then on only managed to move the ball in spurts and was unable to find the endzone for the remainder of the game. The JV Orange Defense started the night out with a 3 and out on the 1st possession and an interception (Javier Chinchilla) on the 2nd possession. After that, misreads and incorrect reactions were the difference. The Warrior Defense fought hard at times and put the Tiger Offense in difficult situations, only to surrender a big play on the next snap. The entire defense has to focus on techniqe and reactions to reads in the weeks to come. We will work harder as we prepare to play Pflugerville next Wednesday.

The Westwood Warriors took on the Stony Point Tigers at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex on Thursday and lost 28-0. Wide receiver and kick returner George Zeron returned the opening kickoff to the 44 yard line to start Westwood with good field position. The offense struggled to move the ball and an errant snap on the ensuing punt gave the Tigers the ball on the ten yard line. Two plays later the Tigers scored the first of four touchdowns. Offensive highlights included a forty yard pass from Quarterback Clayton Richards to George Zeron. Defensive highlights included tackles for loss by linebacker Omar Sahibzada, defensive end Fletcher Platt, and linebacker Jose Garcia, and a fumble recovery by cornerback Nathaniel Maekawa. The Warriors will play the Pflugerville Panthers Wednesday, September 28, at Kuempel Stadium at 5:30. Kuempel Stadium is located at Pflugerville High School. Come out and support the Warriors!

Freshman Orange - 13 Stony Point - 34

The Warriors played a well fought game tonight at Stony Point High School, just falling short. The Warrior offense pieced together a few solid drives, but met a tough Stony Point defense who held the Westwood offense scoreless for the first time all season. The defensive side kept the warriors in the game and just a few miscues led to a large Stony Point margin that could not be regained. It was a great effort by all players, and they will be ready to take on the Pflugerville Panthers next Wednesday and hope to regain their momentum moving into district play.

Freshman White - 0 Stony Point - 34

The Westwood Warriors Freshman Orange team lost to Stoney Point on Thursday evening by a score of 34-13. Stoney Point took an early 7 point lead, but the Warriors responded quickly with a 75 yard drive that resulted in a touchdown pass from Travis Wilde to Zaid Patel. Stoney Point added one more touchdown in the half leaving the Warriors 7 points down going into halftime. In the second half the Warriors fought hard but Tigers got the best of them adding 20 points to their score. Eric Tran had a 80 hard run in the second half. Travis Wilde demonstrated he had a heart of the winner playing extremely hard throughout the game. On the defensive side, Dayton Ames showed a lot of improvement while Austin Clark spearheaded the defensive line.
