Sub Varsity Game Summary
JV Orange - 32 Austin High - 26
The Westwood Warriors defeated the Austin High Maroons by a score of 26-32 Wednesday night at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex, improving their record to 1-2 on the season. The Warrior Offense was started out slow but regrouped score four times on the night. The offensive line consisting of Danny Holmstrom, Anton Wilkins, Seth Pittman, Devin Waldrep, and Calvin Hightower was simply dominant all night long. They opened up running lanes for running backs Mason Bartek, Jaasiel Quiroz, and Senan Jaber. Mason Bartek scored two touchdowns and Jaasiel scored one as well. Quarterback Mike McCaughey scored one touchdown and multiple 2 point conversions. The offense left no doubt that they were the dominant unit on the field at the time and look to continue that trend next week. Defensively, the Warriors had a great night. The 26 points that Austin scored were due to special teams miscues. The two punt returns that were given right back to Austin led to short fields and quick scores. The defensive effort was excellent all night long. Defensive linemen, Christian Benford and Trent Maindell were key to stoping the Maroons running game. Linebackers Brandon Brown, Senan Jaber, and Mason Bartek were critical in the defensive effort. And, the secondary defended the passing game well most of the night, only surrendering a few tough playaction passes. The defense will look to improve on their techniques and efforts as we prepare to defeat the San Antonio Lee Rebels next Thursday at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.

JV White - 6 Austin High 34
The Westwood Warriors took on the Austin High Maroons at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex on Wednesday and lost 34-6. Westwood started slow and was unable to overcome a 20-0 first quarter deficit. The Warrior defense failed to halt the Maroon offensive attack and the offense struggled to move the ball down the field. Offensive highlights included a 35 yard pass and catch from quarterback Clayton Richards to wide receiver Rodney Corbin and some shifty running by Richards and running back Frederick Coleman. Defensive highlights included a tackle for a loss of yards by defensive lineman Chase Saxon and a fumble recovery by strong safety Justin Lass. Westwood’s lone score came late in the fourth quarter when cornerback Ray Lu stripped the football from the Maroon ball carrier and scampered 35 yards for the touchdown. On the play safety Manish Pathi applied pressure to help dislodge the football from the ball allowing Lu to take it away. The Warriors will play the San Antonio Lee Volunteers Thursday, September 15, at the Warrior Bowl at 5:30. Come out and support the Warriors!

Patrick Mora and Safi Momin came up with two big interceptions that would ultimately lead to two scores. On a 4th down and long, Punter Kaleb Cook saw a weakness in the Maroons pass defense, and got the edge. Kaleb Cook would score on a 68 yard run. QB Sam LaBelle led the offense throwing for over 100 yards, 29 of which came on a touchdown pass to WR Jake Gillham.
