JV White - 8 Austin Bowie 33

Kyle Blanton

The Westwood Warriors traveled to South Austin to take on the Bowie Bulldogs and lost 33-8. Westwood’s opening drive started strong behind the running of running back Frederick Coleman and quarterback Clayton Richards but ended abruptly due to some critical mistakes. The Warrior defense struggled to stop Bowie’s ground-based attack early in the game but did manage to stop the Bulldogs on fourth and one when linebacker Jose Garcia and defensive lineman Fletcher Platt stopped the Bulldog running back short of the first down. The Warriors also forced a turnover when defensive lineman Terae Mims recovered a Bulldog fumble. Leading the way for the Warrior Defense were defensive linemen Chase Saxon; linebacker Rafael Garcia; and strong safeties Justin Lass and Bobby Scott. Westwood scored a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter when Coleman took a handoff from Richards and scampered his way to the end zone. Richards darted through the middle behind offensive linemen Saif Dhuka, Derek Dobie, Riley Brown, Garrett Keefer, and Ryan Harrington to add on two points. The Warriors will play Austin High Wednesday, September 7, at the Warrior Bowl at 5:30. Come out and support the Warriors!
