Sub Varsity Game Summary

JV Orange - 0 Cedar Park 41

Randy Davis

The Westwood Warriors traveled to Cedar Park and fell to the Timberwolves by a score of 41-0. The Warrior Offense had ups and downs all night moving the ball but could not capitalize on big plays. The young offensive line played well during the game led by Seth Pittman, Danny Holmstrom, and Devin Waldrep. They opened numerous holes for Running Back Senan Jaber and Quarterbacks Mike McCaughey and Ricky Brown. WR/RB Andrew Bagaline had two kickoff returns brought past midfield but the Warrior offense could not find the endzone on either of those drives. The defensive effort was not as bad as the score would indicate. Big plays haunted the defense and negated their efforts in stopping Cedar Park offensive drives. Notable players for their efforts include: Linebacker: Brandon Brown, Defensive End: Joey Moody, and Safety Adam Zess. The Warrior Defense will regroup and rebound next week as we take on the Bowie JV Bulldogs in South Austin at 7:00pm.

JV White- 6 Cedar Park - 40

The Westwood Warriors traveled to Cedar Park and fell to the Timberwolves by a score of 40-6. The first quarter ended in a score of 8-0. After forcing the Timberwolves to punt on their opening drive the Warrior defense struggled to stop Cedar Park for the remainder of the evening. The Warrior offense was able to sustain a long drive early in the game to keep the ball away from the potent Cedar Park rushing attack. Westwood’s offensive highlights included a fifteen yard pass and catch from quarterback Clayton Richards to wide receiver Bobby Scott. Scott was able to out jump the defenders around him to help move the ball down the field. Running backs DJ Martinez and Frederick Coleman provided the Warriors with some shifty running helping to pick up some first downs. Paving the way for the Warriors’ ground game were offensive linemen Ryan Harrington, Garrett Keefer, Riley Brown, Saif Dhuka, and Derek Dobie. Defensively the Warriors forced a turnover when Safety Taylor Griffin stripped the ball from a Cedar Park ball carrier late in the third quarter. Defensive linemen Trent Maindelle and Terae Mims each tallied a tackle for loss. Setting up Westwood’s lone touchdown was a mad scramble for a loose ball which covered over fifty yards. The Timberwolves snapped the ball over their quarterback’s head. The ball bounced around down the field, squirting from several players’ possession until it was finally recovered by the Warriors inside the Cedar Park twenty yard line. After a scramble by Clayton Richards put the ball inside the five yard line only seconds remained in the game. On the next and final play of the game, Richards threw a jump pass to running back DJ Martinez as the final seconds ticked off the clock. Martinez was tackled in the end zone for the Westwood score.
