Coach Gary Long

 
Originally from Lufkin, JV Orange coach Gary Long begins his 4th year with Westwood baseball.  Coach Long played at Blinn Junior College in 1973-1974 and at Texas Tech University from 1975-1976.  He was a graduate assistant coach for Texas Tech in 1977 and played professionally for the Texas City Stars in the independent Lone Star League in 1977.

Coach Long was the head baseball coach at Nederland HS, Beaumont Central HS, and Del Valle HS.  He served as an assistant baseball coach at Hays HS and Anderson HS. He credits Coach Billy Poland in high school, Coach LeRoy Dreyer at Blinn, and Coach Kal Segrist at Texas Tech as important influences on his baseball career.

Happy to be coaching again at Westwood after ten years in administration, he comments: “It is an honor to be working with Coach Bratcher, who is a legend in Texas High School baseball, and to have the opportunity to work every day with such a great group of young men.”

Coach Long has three children, Ruthie 17, Rachel 14, and John 12.
