Coach Bart Bratcher grew up
in Levelland, Texas and later moved to Lubbock. He attended Monterey High
School and graduated in 1967. From there he went to Baylor University, where
he played baseball for four years. Coach Bratcher is grateful to have played
for two great competitors and teachers, and they have been very
inspirational to him. They are Bobby Moegle at Monterey and Dutch Schroeder
at Baylor. He graduated, cum laude, in 1971, and received his M.S. in 1972.
While in graduate school at Baylor he was an assistant for the Physical
Education department and an assistant baseball coach.
Coach Bratcher began his high school coaching career at
Brazosport High School, where he was the head baseball coach and a JV
football coach from 1973 to 1976. His Brazosport baseball teams were state
quarter‑finalist and semi‑finalist in 1975 and 1976 respectively. While at
Brazosport, his teams compiled a combined record of 74‑50. He became head
baseball coach at Irving High School in the fall of 1976. He coached there
five years, compiling an overall record of 70‑70. In 1980 his Irving team
was district champion, defeating perennial champion Duncanville in a
district playoff.
Coach Bratcher came to Westwood HS with the school's opening in
the fall of 1981, as head baseball coach and football assistant.
Coach Bratcher
has been a member of the Texas HS Baseball Coaches Association since in 1973
and has held the positions of Regional Director, Vice-President, and
President of the association. He was the U.I.L. representative for THSBCA
for about 8 years. He has given clinics for youth league coaches since 1976
in Brazosport, Irving and the Westwood area. Since 1975, he has conducted
many youth baseball camps. In 1995, he was honored by his peers and
inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame.
Coach & Mrs. Bratcher participated in a mission-oriented baseball tour in
the summer of 1997 to Zimbabwe, Africa. Coach Bratcher participated again
each summer since then.
Coach Bratcher and his wife Debra have two sons, Lee Edward,
born July 23, 1987, and Stephen Wayne, born August 15, 1989. He and Debbie
married on January 18, 1986.
