Westwood lost the first game Friday to the Hendrickson Hawks 3-1 in 9 innings. The Warriors couldn't take advantage of solid pitching from Chris Boerner and Travis Schaefer, as the offense never got untracked. Hawks pitchers scattered 6 hits and 3 walks over 9 innings. The Warriors scored their lone run in the fourth inning when Urbane Martinez doubled to lead off, was sacrificed to third, and scored on a ground-out. |

Varsity came up just short against Anderson on Saturday morning. The game was close all the way. Westwood tied it 1-1 in the third when Brooks Eady tripled and scored on a ground-out. Anderson got 2 more to go up 3-1, but the Warriors fought back with a run in the 4th. Chase Griesbach scored after drawing a walk, followed by singles by Ryan Atwood and Tyler Lunceford. It was tied 3-3 after the 5th when Michael Schaefer led off and "took one for the team", Jake Irby took Michael's place on 1st as the courtesy runner, and was sacrificed over to second by Wes Miller. He moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on a fly to right by Craig McConaughy. That score held til the bottom of the seventh when three singles led to a close play at the plate as Anderson got the game-winner. |
Westwood lost again in the second game against Fossil Ridge 6-4. Down 2-0, the Warriors tied it in the bottom of the 1st when Brooks Eady got a lead-off double and scored on a ball hit by Tyler Lunceford that resulted in an error. Lunceford scored later on a throwing error on a grounder to third. Four runs in the top of the 5th turned out to be enough for Fossil Ridge to win the game. Westwood got 2 more in the 6th on a walk, a triple by Will Johnson, and singles by Wes Miller and Ryan Atwood. But that was the last of the scoring, with Westwood leaving the tying runs on base in the bottom of the 7th. |

In the 5th, a single by Wes Miller, a double by Will Johnson, and an RBI single from Chase Griesbach gave us another run. Cody Brasher and Wes Miller scored the final runs in the 6th. Chase Griesbach got the win and Reece Rozell pitched the last three innings to finish it out. |
In the late game, Westwood moved to 10-4 on the season with a 14-6 victory over Midland Lee. Travis Schaefer had 2 doubles and four RBI. |
District competition got off to a rough start for Westwood. Stony Point got 2 runs in the first on a dribbler in the infield, a pop-up down the right-field line that blew back fair, and a grounder through the right side. They added 3 more in the 2nd on back-2-back doubles and a single. In the bottom of the 2nd the Warriors started a comeback with Ryan Atwood leading off with a triple to right center. For the second time this week, the ball didn't roll Westwood's way. Chase Griesbach limited the Dragons to 1 hit through 6 innings, but the Warriors couldn't come up with the key hit to score, and a three-run home run in the top of the seventh turned out to be the difference. Westwood had nine hits, including a leadoff double in the 6th by Brooks Eady, and a 3-3 night for Will Johnson, but the big hit with runners in scoring position didn't happen. |
It was a beautiful first day of Spring, and the Warriors played 8 innings against the Lake Travis Cav's at the Dell Diamond. The Warriors got on the board in the first when Brooks Eady singled, moved to second on an error and scored on Chase Griesbach's double. They added a run in the 2nd on walks to Michael Schaefer and Wes Miller followed by another single from Eady. In the bottom of the second with one out, Cody Gruber hit a grounder up the middle, that Miller snagged behind 2nd, spun and made the throw to first in time for the out. Three runs scored in the 4th on one hit with a little help from Lake Travis. There were two HBP, a single from Miller, and an error. In the fifth, Tyler Lunceford led off with a triple, and scored on a single by Aaron Moore. In the bottom of the 6th with a runner on 2nd, left-fielder Cody Brasher ranged back to his left and made a leaping catch of a line drive that would have gone for extra bases. The Warriors let the W slip away late in the game, allowing 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to force an extra inning, and then giving up the game-winner in the bottom of the 8th. |
Sigh ... all it took was one really bad inning to turn a perfectly good game into a loss. The Warriors took at 5-0 lead in the 5th inning. Loading the bases on hits by Brooks Eady and Will Johnson and an intentional walk to Chase Griesbach, then Ryan Atwood drove in the game's first run with a sac fly. Up next, Aaron Moore tripled to bring in two more. Then Matt Casey walked and stole second and Craig McConaughy's third single of the game drove in two more. Unfortunately, in the 6th inning Westwood pitchers lost their grip on the strike zone and gave up 9 runs. In the home half of the 6th the Warriors rallied again with Wes Miller's double, Eady's infield hit and Will Johnson's single loading the bases. Griesbach singled in one run and Atwood drew a walk to plate another. Moore had a sac fly to bring Westwood within one, but that was as close as they got. Leander threatened to score again in the top of the 7th with a runner on third and no outs, but with the infield drawn in Casey caught a hard smash and doubled the runner off third. In the bottom of the 7th, Eady got his fourth hit, but was left on base as the game ended. |

Westwood battled 9 innings against Georgetown Friday night and ended up with another close loss. The Warriors scored a run in each of the first three innings. Wes Miller led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by Brooks Eady and scored on a hit from Will Johnson. In the second, Craig McConaughy singled, and scored on Ben Johnson's double. The third run came on Will Johnson's walk, a double from Chase Griesbach, and Ryan Atwood's rbi groundout. Griesbach pitched a good game, striking out 13 over 9 innings to keep the Warriors in the game. |
Saturday against Austin High, Westwood got on the board with 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd, highlighted by hits from Tyler Lunceford, Wes Miller, and Will Johnson. They added a run in the 3rd when Craig McConaughy walked, moved to third on a walk and Ben Johnson's single, and scored on a double play. The Warriors were behind 7-4 entering the home half of the seventh, but with two outs they rallied. McConaughy hit a ball in the gap that the right-fielder got a glove on but couldn't hang on to. Lunceford followed with a single, stole second and when the throw went into center McConaughy scored and Lunceford moved to third. Then Ben Johnson singled in Lunceford to get Westwood within one. Next, Chase Griesbach pinch hit and crushed a walk-off home run over left-center. |
Westwood got on the board in the first when Will Johnson doubled and an error on Chase Griesbach's grounder allowed Will to score. Unfortunately, the Warriors didn't score again, and David Rodriguez' 3-run HR in the third gave McNeil enough to win. |

The Warriors started off Friday night's game with a bang ... two of them actually. Wes Miller led off with a HR, and Brooks Eady followed with another! Will Johnson singled to right and Chase Griesbach drew a walk to get two on base. Then Craig McConaughy put a grounder through the left side and both runners scored. Aaron Moore followed with a high pop down the left-field line that fell for a double. Ryan Atwood came through with a 2-run line drive single that finished off the Cedar Park starter. Those 6 runs would be enough with Griesbach on the mound, but Westwood added one more in the 4th when Will Johnson got on base on an error, and then scored on brother Ben's hit. |
The Warriors took their bats with them to Vista Ridge on Saturday. They pounded out a season high 16 hits, and still just squeaked out a 10-9 victory. Westwood got on the board in the first when Brooks Eady walked and courtesy runner Cody Brasher stole second and then scored on Chase Griesbach's single up the middle. They picked up a second run in the third on Ryan Atwood's sac fly and scored again in the fourth on a sac fly from Aaron Moore. Down 8-3, the Warriors rallied for 4 runs in the fifth. Eady got on when the third baseman made a bad throw to first. Will Johnson followed with a single and then Chase Griesbach hit a long HR to right center. Tyler Lunceford then doubled and scored on Moore's single. There were more offensive fireworks in the 6th when Will Johnson led off with a double and Atwood singled him home. Atwood stole second and scored on Craig McConaughy's single up the middle. Vista Ridge scored in the bottom of the 6th to tie it up at 9-9. Then in the top of the 7th, Ben Johnson led off with a single. Wes Miller bunted and when the catcher had trouble picking it up, Wes beat the throw to first. After a sac bunt from Eady, Will Johnson's sac fly to right scored Ben with what turned out to be the winning run. Ryan Atwood pitched the last inning and 2/3 without allowing a hit to get the win. |
The Warriors ran their win streak to 3 games with a 5-4 win at Stony Point Tuesday night. Ryan Atwood scored the first run on a single by Ben Johnson. In the fifth inning Westwood broke through for 4 runs to chase Tiger starter Cody Tillotson. Matt Casey was hit by a pitch, and then Wes Miller singled. Brooks Eady followed with another single to load the bases. Will Johnson flied out to deep center field to score Casey. Chase Griesbach was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Then Atwood worked a walk to force in a run. Next up Craig McConaughy chopped a grounder down the third base line just past the third baseman to score two more. Stony Point closed to within one run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Warriors held on. Griesbach came in from center field with one on in the bottom of the seventh to strike out the side. |

The Warriors kept their April hot-streak alive with a big win at Round Rock. In the first inning Wes Miller was hit by a pitch (that's using your head Wes!) and then Brooks Eady drew a walk. Will Johnson singled to load the bases. Chase Griesbach worked a walk to force in the first run, and then Craig McConaughy singled in another. That finished off the Dragon starter, but they managed to get three outs with no more runs scoring. In the second the Warriors came back for more. Tyler Lunceford got a single, Travis Schaefer also singled to put two on base. One run scored on a groundout, and then Griesbach doubled to deep center to drive in two more. In the 6th, Westwood added 3 with two out. Miller got on when the Dragon shortstop misplayed a grounder, and then Eady doubled him home. Will Johnson followed with an RBI single and then Griesbach came through with another long double to score Johnson. Westwood finished off the Dragons in the 7th when three walks were followed by RBI singles by Miller and Eady, and then Griesbach again drew a walk to force in the final run. Chris Boerner pitched the 7th and didn't allow a hit, thanks to a great play by Matt Casey at first base. |
After building a 9-2 lead in the fourth inning, the Warriors let Leander come back and win a heart-breaker 10-9 in 9 innings. Westwood started off hot. Wes Miller led off with a double down the left-field line. Batting third, Will Johnson hit a long home run over the right-field fence. Chase Griesbach and Craig McConaughy followed with singles. Ben Johnson reached on an error by the second baseman that allowed a third run to score. Aaron Moore singled to load the bases and then Tyler Lunceford doubled over the center fielder's head to score all three. It was 6-2 going into the 4th when Miller led off with another double. Brooks Eady singled to score Miller, and then Will Johnson doubled to score Cody Brasher, running for Eady. In all, Westwood got three more runs that inning for what seemed a comfortable lead. In the fifth inning, with a suddenly smaller strike zone, Leander got three runs. They got four more in the 6th to tie the game, and won in the bottom of the ninth when a pitch in the dirt bounced away from Eady. |
Westwood had a tough Saturday night at Georgetown, losing 11-1. The Warriors got their lone run in the 4th when Will Johnson doubled and Chase Griesbach singled him home. Will had two hits and Aaron Moore went 2-2, but it was too little offense and too many mistakes against a good team. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
McNeil scored 3 in the first, and 2 in the 3rd and 4th to take a 7-0 lead. In the bottom of the 4th, the Warriors rallied for 4 runs. Brooks Eady led off with a single and Will Johnson drew a walk. Chase Griesbach doubled off the fence in left-center to drive in one run. Craig McConaughy walked to load the bases, and Aaron Moore was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Then Ben Johnson got an RBI on a sac fly. The fourth run scored on a fielder's choice ground-out. Unfortunately, that was the end of the scoring for the Warriors who fell to 4-8 in district. |
Ryan Atwood pitched a complete game and held Cedar Park to 6 hits and 3 runs, but the Warrior offense couldn't break through against Nathan Thornhill. The Warriors got 4 singles, and left 8 runners on base, losing 3-0. |
The Warriors closed out the year with a win at home on Senior Night. Chase Griesbach pitched a complete game to win a close one. Westwood got their 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Travis Schaefer walked with one out and stole second. Then with two outs an error by the shortstop put Steven Kanik on first and moved Schaefer over to third. Kanik stole second, setting the stage for Josh Caldwell's single up the middle driving in both runners. The Warriors made that lead hold up, but it took a great throw from Travis Schaefer to nail the potential tying run at the plate in the top of the 6th. Congratulations to all the seniors! |
