Westwood's number 1 player Miguel Alda is ranked #1 in the State in 16's and 18's in USTA rankings. He is currently the top player in Texas in two different age groups and ranked #33 in the Nation. Miguel plays many USTA tournaments outside of school and we continue to watch his ranking rise. As he has already completed his goal of being ranked #1 in Texas, he will start playing national tournaments only to get his ranking as high as possible. This past summer, Miguel and his sister Rosalia (who was the 2007 Girl's Singles State Champion) played mixed doubles in the US OPEN qualifier to try to make it to Flushing Meadows. Congrats to Miguel on his continued success in Tennis.

After starting off the district campaign at 0-4, the Warriors found themselves in a "must-win" situation heading into the final two games of the first half of district play and needing to start playing defense again. They came out strong against the Leander Lions and bolted out to a commanding first quarter lead on 3 long range three-point goals by J.T. Dettman, to take a 20-11 first quarter lead. The second quarter saw the Warrior shooters go cold, but good team defense, outside shooting from Nathan Robbins, and the rebounding of Dettman and junior Parker Hanusa kept the Warriors in the lead 35-27 at the half. In the second half, Warrior free throw shooters took over with Derek Nalodka scoring 9 of his game high 15 points from the charity stripe. For the game, the Warriors shot 22-29 from the line and that proved to be the difference, as the Warriors cruised to a 67-47 victory. Nathan Robbins contributed 14 big points to the cause, while Jake Pearcy had 13 and J.T. Dettman finished with 11 points.
On Friday night, the Warriors traveled to the new gym at Round Rock High to face a Dragon team that already had won 2 District games, so a win would be a must. The Warriors came out firing as Derek Nalodka and Matt Holeman staked the Warriors to an early 11-1 lead, but Warrior reserves could not maintain the momentum and the Dragons cut the lead to 16-11 at the end of the first period. Jake Pearcy got to the basket and the free throw line in the 2nd quarter to stake the Warriors to a 34-27 halftime lead, as the Dragon's 6'10" junior post, Leonard Allen, began to find easy shots over the shorter Warriors. In the third quarter the Warrior shooters began to cool and the Dragons cut the lead to 43-40 before Derek Nalodka found J.T. Dettman in the deep corner for a buzzer beating 3 pointer to get the lead back up to 6 heading into the 4th. The Warriors went into a slow-down game and Jake Pearcy and Derek Nalodka ate up the clock while J.T. Dettman found Matt Holeman for a back door layup and big 3 point goal to keep the Dragons at bay. Down the stretch, Nalodka and Dettman hit the clutch free throws to ice the game and the Warriors came away with the win 57-51. Derek Nalodka led all scores with 19 points, followed by Matt Holeman with 11 and Jake Pearcy with 10.
The Warriors are now 2-4 in District play and travel to Stony Point (3-4) on Tuesday to continue their climb. Next home game will be Friday night versus Pflugerville at 7:30. Please come join all of the Fat Heads in the stands and cheer the Warriors on.
